Senior Stable Operations Associate

Part-Time | 6-10 Hours/Week | Weekend Coverage Required

Position Overview

ManeGait is a therapeutic riding facility dedicated to helping children and adults with disabilities move beyond their boundaries through the healing power of the horse. We are looking for a dependable, hands-on Senior Stable Operations Associate to help provide exceptional daily care for our horses and stable. This role works directly with the herd, supports safe and orderly stable operations, supervises volunteers, and helps maintain the facilities, equipment, and grounds that make our programs possible. The position reports to the Director, Operations / Stable Operations Manager and works closely with the Equine Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Horse Care & Stable Operations

  • Maintain daily feeding routines following the posted schedule.

  • Uphold feed-area sanitation standards after each feeding.

  • Ensure continuous access to clean water by maintaining buckets, troughs, and automatic waterers.

  • Maintain clean, well-bedded stalls; muck loafing sheds and high-traffic turnout areas; and support hay and bedding supply management as needed.

  • Assist with horse catching and turnout, including presenting horses for scheduled farrier visits.

  • Monitor herd health and condition during daily care and promptly report concerns to leadership.

  • Ensure stall doors, property and pasture gates, barn doors, water sources, etc are properly secured and maintained as needed during each shift.

Facility, Grounds & Equipment

  • Keep stable aisles, hay storage, tack and feed rooms, restrooms, and shared viewing or lounge areas clean, orderly, stocked, and free of obstruction.

  • Collect trash and recycling and perform routine stable cleaning, including sweeping, cobweb removal, dusting, and scheduled washing of walls and stall fronts.

  • Maintain safe, consistent arena footing through routine watering and dragging after appropriate training.

  • Walk pastures and fence lines regularly, remove debris, and promptly report damaged fencing, gates, plumbing, lighting, pest activity, or other facility concerns.

  • Care for stable tools, equipment, vehicles, and machinery by cleaning, storing, and returning items after use; perform routine upkeep and report damage or malfunctions.

  • Support general grounds upkeep, including mowing, trimming, weed control, fuel monitoring, and keeping driveways, walkways, and parking areas clear of debris and weather-related hazards.

Volunteer Support & Teamwork

  • Supervise and support barn volunteers working in stalls and cross ties, helping ensure safe and consistent practices around horses.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with staff, volunteers, and program participants while working independently and exercising sound judgment.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience with routine stable care and grounds maintenance.

  • Solid, hands-on horse experience, including safe ground handling.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and support volunteers working in stalls and cross ties.

  • Dependable and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently, follow established routines, and exercise sound judgment.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, especially in the presence of program participants and volunteers

  • Provide required schedule coverage in a reliable and dependable manner.

  • Willingness to support and collaborate with other departments as needed.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in an active, physical equine environment that includes close proximity to horses, stable equipment, vehicles, and machinery.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, remain on foot for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Compensation & Schedule

This is a part-time position working 6-10 hours per week. Early Morning and Afternoon Shifts are a must, including weekends, but not more than 5 days a week.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
